About Me
The 'Lady Jayne' is a Dragon class keel boat 29'4" and built of wood at Lee Bay, just outside the entrance to Pender Harbour. Construction took 6 years, part-time (2000 - 2006) She won the Judges Award at the 2008 Sunshine Coast Wooden Boat Festival and her division in the 2009 Malaspina Annual Regatta.
Her hull is African Mahogany cold-molded over White Oak ribs, deck is yellow cedar (from the Sunshine Coast) over 1/4" marine plywood, Stika Spruce (from Vancouver Island) mast and boom. Seats are made of Western Maple harvested on Lee Bay road.
The Dragon was designed in Norway in 1928 and is still very popular today, particularly in Europe. The Dragon class combines grace and beauty with superb functionality. She sails easily and is meant for moderate to strong winds.
I sailed a Flying Dutchman for over 30 years and find the Dragon in comparison more suitable for my age while still retaining some sportiness.
The picture above was taken in 2007 in Pender Harbour looking west towards the harbour entrance.
